Skin care starts from the inside!

I hear often, people do not consider that the food we eat and the health of our bodies has any influence on the condition of our skin. Our diet and lifestyle are directly reflected in our skin’s health.

I first learned this philosophy during Janesce Skin Solutions’ product training. Bestow Beauty complements the Janesce philosophies as an internal skincare range. Both Janesce Skin Care & Bestow Beauty are part of the Slow Beauty movement, emphasizing holistic skincare that cares for you and your skin as a whole. They are perfect partners in your skincare routine and should be used together.

I have lived and breathed this philosophy my entire skin career (since 2010!).

I strongly believe in caring for your skin and yourself from the inside out, using nutritional supplements, health, and lifestyle programs to treat your skin and body internally.

Adding a nutritional aspect to your skincare routine is simple and straightforward. Your skin is the last organ in your body to receive nutrients, making it one of the first places to show imbalances or deficiencies. So, it’s logical to say that the nutrients (or lack thereof) we consume play a massive role in our skin’s health and condition. There are six vital nutrients for skin health, and each of them needs to be at optimum levels for your best skin health. Your skin is only as strong as your weakest link, so achieving optimal skin health requires balancing ALL of these nutrients. Your skin will let you know if it’s not happy, and our goal is to keep it healthy and radiant!

6 Nutrients Vital to Skin Health:

  • Water
  • Essential Fatty Acids
  • Vitamin B
  • Vitamin A
  • Zinc
  • Vitamin C

The easiest, quickest and most effective way of obtaining these nutrients is through our diets - the quality of the food we eat. The ‘fuel’ our bodies need to digest and process.

Some of these may be difficult to get into your diet, and this is where supplementation comes in. When taking supplements, an important factor to remember is that it can take at least 6 weeks before “seeing” any results on your skin. This doesn’t mean it’s not working before then. We advise to take a supplement for at least 6-8 weeks.

Learn how to get the Six Essential Nutrients for Skin

Aside from eating the right foods, taking your supplements and getting your diet right. There is another internal factor that is very important for skin health - your digestion.

Healthy DIGESTION is the key to healthy SKIN.

Our gut is home to a complex eco-system of bacteria and fungus. Poor diet and ill health can deplete our colonies of beneficial microbes leading to a disordered gut. A new wave of scientific gut research is highlighting the direct connection between gut health and skin health. You cannot truly heal inflammatory skin conditions like acne, rosacea and eczema or revitalize dull, lack-lustre skin without first rebalancing the gut.

If your body is not processing the nutrients, you will not be able to use them effectively. Even after ensuring that you are consuming the right nutrients for your skin and overall health, it is crucial to ensure that your body can efficiently process and digest these nutrients to utilize what it needs and eliminate the rest properly.

If your body struggles to process or use these nutrients, or if it receives low-quality nutrients, your skin cells (and other cells in your body) will not perform at their best.

Don’t forget about Elimination!

Digestive elimination is a vital aspect of overall health and plays a significant role in achieving radiant skin and optimal well-being. Proper elimination ensures that toxins and waste products are efficiently removed from the body, preventing their accumulation and potential negative impact on the skin and other organs. When the digestive system functions smoothly, it helps maintain a healthy balance of gut bacteria, which further supports skin health and immune function. Emphasizing good digestion and regular bowel movements through a balanced diet rich in fiber, hydration, and probiotics can contribute to clear, glowing skin. Remember, a happy gut leads to happy skin! So, take care of your digestive system, and your skin will thank you with a radiant and healthy glow.
